What's At Stake
The FActs

Being impoverished & holding a minority  immigrant status can possess extreme determinants upon an individuals’ ability to succeed academically as governmental restrictions disable this population to receive federal aid & enable big corporations to abusively give their parents lower wages; thus making them more susceptible to food insecurity & housing insecurity. The statistics obtained through the Hunger on Campus states, “ a national sample of students at two- and four-year institutions, said that 57 percent of black students and 56 percent of Latino students reported food insecurity”. However, the sacrifices made to obtain an education doesn’t solely affect being able to eat but affect one’s living environment, which is statistically proven by …. “Food-insecure students in that study were more prone to housing insecurity. Within the past year, 64 percent experienced housing insecurity, while 15 percent reported homelessness, ‘the most extreme form of housing insecurity’”. It’s an impossible expectation for students under these circumstances to excel within their academics as an empty stomach & being exposed to merciless weather conditions makes students less concentrated and instead, worried about bare necessities. Statistics from Hunger on campus states, “Of students who reported either hunger or housing instability, 81 percent said that the problems harmed their academic performance. The most common effects were missing class (53 percent), missing study sessions (54 percent), opting out of extracurricular activities (55 percent), and not buying textbooks (55 percent). A quarter reported dropping a class”. All their efforts for themselves and their families for a better livelihood solely relies upon their educations, especially within an increasingly dependency upon higher educated society considering "By 2020, 65% of jobs will require post-secondary education and training beyond high school (Georgetown Public Policy Institute)". Impoverished & undocumented Latin x individuals are particularly need YOUR help because they are the least likely group to succeed academically due to these circumstances evident by the statistics produced by the US dept. of education, "About 5 to 10% of undocumented students pursue higher education, and far fewer successfully graduate with a degree".
